Hello to anyone and everyone taking the time out of their day to read my first blog post. Let me first start by introducing myself to you. My name is Delaney and I am a 16-year-old currently living in Northern Indiana in the United States. Here in Indiana, I live with my two parents (Teri and Terry), my youngest brother (Mason), and my dog Gabby. I have two older siblings, Sydney and Gavin. Sydney was a Rotary Youth Exchange Student in 2014-2015 to Mudgee, Australia. Gavin is currently a Rotary Youth Exchange Student living in Stockholm, Sweden. Over the past 2 years, my family has hosted 4 exchange students: Estelle, Gaku, Barbora, and Neele. My biological siblings and my host siblings have all somehow influenced me to take the steps to become an exchange student. So here are 5 reasons off the top of my head to support why I want to go on an exchange:
Reason #1: I can learn a new culture that I would not likely be exposed to in small town rural Indiana.
Reason #2: I can become bilingual, a personal goal that I have always wanted to achieve.
Reason #3: I get to connect with 1-3 host families and form bonds and relationships with them.
Reason #4: I get to make new friends (both exchange students and locals in my host country).
Reason #5: I get to represent my own country and community on exchange. This means telling people from across the world about a place they might not know a lot about.
Thanks for reading,
Delaney
